For this recipe, we’ve decided to pair them with some sliced onions and garlic, fried in olive oil. If you care to, you can add some herbs like dried thyme, rosemary, or oregano for some added flavor and personality.
4 pieces bone-in rib-eye steaks
2 medium onions
4-5 garlic cloves
1 tsp dried rosemary
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh rosemary, optionally
Remove steaks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before grilling.
Start a fire in your Breeo fire pit by adding a couple of dry branches and then some hardwood logs. Let the fire burn for 20-30 minutes, adding more hardwood logs if necessary. Lower the grill grate until right above the fire.
Meanwhile, peel and slice onions and garlic. Set aside. Heat some olive oil in a medium cast iron skillet and add sliced onions and garlic. Cook over open fire for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the grill and set aside.
Brush steaks with olive oil and sprinkle with dried rosemary and sea salt.
Generously brush the grill grate with some oil and position about 3-4 inches above the flame. Make sure to add more wood if necessary because you need a strong, open fire for the best results.
Add steaks and grill for 4-5 minutes on each side.
Add some fresh rosemary if desired, and remove from the grill.
Season with some more salt or pepper to taste and serve with the prepared onions, some cherry tomatoes or cucumbers.
The technology used to make each of our fire pits Smoke Less also creates a more even cooking surface. This means less rotating is needed, allowing for juicier and more flavorful meat. This also makes the perfect open-fire grilled steaks, as you don’t have to worry about getting each steak moved to the “hottest part” of the grill.
Cooking the perfect steak can be a bit of a challenge, but with a few simple tricks and tips, and the right seasoning, it can be accomplished quite simply. Enjoy!
