Material: Steel Coated With a High-Temp Grill Paint
Due to this product being made of steel, it is prone to rust with exposure to the combination of fire and the elements. A touch-up paint kit is included with each fire pit unit; feel free to let it develop a natural patina over time or touch up the paint from time to time.
This product can reach potential temperatures of 1,900+ degrees Fahrenheit. At this point, there is no paint that can withstand both direct flame contact and outdoor use. We paint our fire pits with a high-temp outdoor grill paint that has a heat rating up to 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit. However, with use and time, the fire pit will begin to develop surface rust. For this reason, we build our fire pits to be heavy duty so they will last for years despite the rust. The painted look can be maintained with regular touchups with high-temperature paint.

Solid, well made fire pit with lid
Unit arrived in top condition. Good packaging. It is a very solid unit and I especially like the tight fitting lid which does not slide around due to guides built in. It is easy to start a fire with the unit and the deep sides help stabilize the flame. I am glad I bought the unit but there are a couple of things you should know. It does take 30-45 minutes of burn time to get enough hot coals to heat the sides so the "smokeless" design of the unit becomes effective. Also, due to the depth of the unit, almost all the heat from the fire goes straight up and does not radiate out like in a shallower dish pit. Having said that, once the fire gets really going you can load it up to near the top to get more heat to radiate out and it will burn almost any wood at that point due to the intense heat from the interior of the unit.

Fireplace insert
I really appreciate when vendors put accurate measurements on their site. I pre-built the masonry and then ordered the insert. Fit perfectly. Works awesome too.
